+MPU Greater Boston – Democracy Renovation: Make Your Vote Count

Merengue Restaurant

RSVP

Did you know that Massachusetts is:

  • 21st in the country for the gap between BIPOC population and BIPOC legislative representation
  • Last (50th) in the country for competitiveness of elections
  • Last (50th) in the country for state legislature effectiveness

If you want to learn more about why and how to make your vote count, we invite you to join us for an evening of delicious food and an engaging discussion on how to renovate our voting structures.

This collaborative event will be co-hosted by GenUnity+More Perfect Union, and More Equitable Democracy in partnership with MassVoteMA Voter TablePartners in DemocracyRanked Choice Boston and Union Capital.

We’ll start with food and introductions then jump into a hands-on exercise led by More Equitable Democracy to help shine a light on how voting structures impact electoral outcomes. The question will be simple: What’s for dinner?

We’ll “vote” for dinner using different voting structures to demonstrate how structure impacts outcomes. What if we used a winner-take-all method vs. ranked-choice voting vs. proportional ranked choice voting? The outcome, as you’ll see, will vary significantly.

Following this exercise, MassVotePartners in Democracy and Ranked Choice Boston will share about the work they are doing to make local and state electoral outcomes more equitable and how you can get involved.

Join us for an engaging, hopeful evening with delicious Dominican food made by the Merengue team. Bring family and friends, and expect to leave empowered and ready for more. We hope to see you there!

About the Boston Chapter

Across cities and towns just like yours nationwide, we serve our communities by starting with bringing different neighbors together for events centered around Service, Leadership, and Civics.

By rolling up our sleeves side-by-side, we can begin to see that we have more in common than what divides us; that first and foremost we are fellow Americans with a common love for our families and communities.

These Chapters – also known as our Brickyards – are mobile places for neighbors to connect and solve local problems. We do this through respectful and open conversations, and to find higher ground as we work together brick-by-brick.
