Jayson Guest

San Antonio, TX Brickyard Leader

They/Them

Jayson Guest is proud to not only be a member of a minority in many areas, but to bring that understanding of otherness under the protection of being a passing white male to help spread the voices of those who do not have the same privilege. One of the ways Jayson does this is through their career, teaching freshman composition to students deemed developmental by Texas state standards. A majority of these students are from high schools with a low socioeconomic &/or racial minority base and Jayson prides themselves on meeting these students where they’re at in their learning and helping them to prepare to excel in the remainder of their college career and life after.

When they’re not at work, Jayson volunteers for the local library bookstore, studies Japanese, plays with their cats, and nurtures their many, many indoor and outdoor plants. They enjoy all forms of art, especially music and body art, and create collages and mosaics as a form of expression. Every summer break for the month of July Jayson travels overseas for a “humanitarian” vacation, such as teaching English to low income women in Kathmandu, Nepal. Becoming a brickyard leader is a movement for the greater good that they can engage in at a local, daily level.
