Josue “JV” Villanueva
Ward 1 - Washington, D.C. Brickyard Co-Captain
He/Him
As a first-generation American and a Latinx software engineer, JV has built a career on the belief that the strongest systems are those that are inclusive and built to empower everyone. This principle has guided him not only in his professional life as a Software Engineer, but also in his deep commitment to community service.
He is passionate about paying forward the opportunities he has earned. He actively mentors aspiring technologists from underrepresented backgrounds through mentoring or participation in communities like Hack.Diversity— where he was first a Fellow and now a Mentor — as well as other communities like Techqueria, ColorStack or Code2040 and has volunteered his engineering skills for open-source projects like FightPandemics, where he helped onboard and guide new engineers. His goal has always been to bridge gaps and create connections, whether through code or conversation.
He is drawn to +MPU because its mission of uniting Americans through service and dialogue is a tangible way to build a more resilient and compassionate country. He is eager to bring his problem-solving skills and dedication to community building to the MPU movement and work alongside others who are committed to creating a more perfect union.
